Boxing Brings Some Relief From the Hell of War

U.S. Navy Boxing Match on U.S.S. New York - 1899

The Military has always had a fondness for boxing, especially on board vessels.  Football fields, baseball diamonds, basketball courts are not possible on deck. The boxing ring can be placed easily on the deck. And, if there is no ring, the men simply gather around the fighters, hang from every rafter, and enjoy the entertainment that takes their minds off the hell of war, even if for a few moments.

Most of the time the men just put on the gloves and the bell rings. No trunks, no fight shoes, and NO MOUTHPIECES!

We owe a great deal to all these men for being there to fight for us. Many never returned. Thank you guys.
