Hearns, 18-0 with 17 knockouts, won every round except the first by a wide margin. But he was unable to bring Hayman to the canvas, stopping his consecutive knockout streak.

Hearns, 6-foot-1 and fighting at 147½ lbs, used footwork and a big reach advantage to confuse the 30-year-old Hayman. The ‘Hitman’ from Detroit surprised Hayman with short overhand rights and quick jabs.
