It bugged Vinny Pazienza that Dana Rosenblatt was being hyped as the “Jewish Rocky Marciano,” not to mention the successor to Pazienza as the best fighter from New England. When they finally got together last night in the Convention Center ring, Rosenblatt looked more like the next Marvin Hagler.
After all, Rosenblatt and Hagler both are heavy-hitting southpaw middleweights from Massachusetts. Rosenblatt dominated the first three rounds, dropping Pazienza with a straight right in the opening round. But it turned out there is one big difference between Hagler and Rosenblatt. Hagler could take a punch.
Pitching a shutout on the cards of all three judges, Rosenblatt was caught by a shocking overhand right from Pazienza in the fourth round. He survived referee Tony Orlando’s count but was out on his feet when he got up. Pazienza not only finished the fight at 2:13 of the round with a final flurry, but he knocked Orlando down for good measure, throwing two rights at Rosenblatt after the fight was over but hitting the ref by mistake
