Patterson, at age 21, became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion of all-time. Previously, the youngest champion had been Joe Louis, who was 23 when he won the title from Jim Braddock in 1937. Patterson’s mark was broken in 1986, when 20-year-old Mike Tyson defeated Trevor Berbick to win the WBC title. Tyson, like Patterson, was a protege of Cus D’Amato.

Moore, at age 39, would have been the oldest fighter to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

The World Heavyweight Championship became vacant with the retirement of Rocky Marciano, who held the title from 1952 to 1956.

Moore was a 9 to 5 betting favorite.

There was an announced crowd of 14,000.

The gross gate was $228,145 and the net was $187,585.
